A tribute to Cherry and Open Management from Nguyễn Quốc Thịnh, CEO of Baki

Three years ago, I was lucky to be inspired by Cherry Vu about the journey of reorganizing the organization.
At that time, Baki still operated in a traditional way: managing, controlling, processes, and commands. The goal was to make the work run more efficiently.
She once said to Thịnh a sentence that she still remembers today:
“When you start to see people as living beings, working together, developing together, and sharing the results, it is a very big step forward for the business.”
At that time, I only understood part of it.
It wasn’t until I actually applied it that I realized how meaningful what she said was.
When leaders no longer see people as “resource” or “tools for generating profit,” but see them as people with dreams, emotions, and growth potential, the way the business operates will change completely.
Managers no longer just assign tasks and check.
They spend more time listening, training, giving authority, and creating an environment where each person can fully realize their potential.
The interesting thing is, when people develop, the business also develops accordingly.
Profit is no longer the only goal, but the result of building a healthy organization.
Now, looking back, I see that I have changed a lot.
Perhaps because I went through that phase, I find everything quite natural.
But in reality, there are still many businesses out there that manage according to the old model: many commands, many pressures, many controls. People work just to complete tasks and receive their salaries, very few people find joy, growth, or meaning in their work.
Thịnh doesn’t say that any model is absolutely right.
Each business has a different stage of development.
But Thịnh believes that in the long run, organizations that know how to help people grow will have a more sustainable vitality than those that only optimize performance.
Because in the end, a business is not created by machines or processes.
A business is created by people.
And when people are happy, mature, and see the meaning in their work, they will create things that go far beyond what salary can buy.

I feel extremely lucky to have met open-minded and eager-to-learn business owners like you. I don’t have much effort except for standing outside and giving advice :)) But I’m extremely proud of what you’ve achieved and I’m sure that with this path, you’ll develop even stronger.
