A lot of people initially read Teal Unicorn as “Agile + humanism.”

Underneath, there is a fairly radical inversion of management assumptions:

🌸 authority as contextual
🌸 transparency as default
🌸 experimentation over planning
🌸 fluidity over rigid roles
🌸 systems over hierarchy
🌸 trust over control
🌸 adaptation over optimisation
That is a major departure from industrial-era management thinking.
And importantly:
they frame this not as ideology, but as adaptation to VUCA complexity.
That puts them philosophically closer to:
complexity science
resilience engineering
systems thinking
sociotechnical systems
humanistic management
…than to classic Agile consulting.
