There is a series of four challenges, named “Unicorn Rising” after the idea of “the phoenix rising”. Lift yourselves up out of the mess you are in. Bootstrap yourselves up to better ways of working: better results and better lives. These are still in development. Only the Teal Tribe know about them. You can do them in any order, or just do one of them, but we designed them to be done in this sequence:

1. WORKING NAKED

Visualise work: how it flows and what work is flowing.

Once you can see what is going on, only then can you create…

2. MAX HEADROOM

Create headroom: space or slack so that people can actually think about improvement and have time to do some improvement instead on being overwhelmed by work to be done.

Only once you have created some headroom can you credibly consider improving the ways of working (which in turn creates more headroom…)

3. GET OUT OF THE WAY

Improve flow: make it easier to do better. Most systems of work that we see are awful: there is much scope to improve the value stream – the flow of work.

Then, once you have proven that the Open principles lead to better ways of working – better results and better lives – only then can you sensibly consider major changes…

4: REVOLUTION

In general, we prefer “evolution not revolution”, i.e. agile incremental changes not big-bang step change. However, there are times when the apex leaders see the need for accelerated change, for radical reengineering, to respond to existential challenges. This can still be done in a safe collaborative low-risk way using the same principles we have learned.

Each challenge is a month long, with the series to be done over a period of six months, talking a couple of months off along the way when you need to, so as not to overwhelm everyone. Each challenge demonstrates to you – allows you to actually experience – the principles that we call Open, that drive our consistent amazing success with our clients. You can access the currently available challenges here.
