Any employer who tries to miminise what they pay you doesn’t deserve you.
Good employers try to maximise pay.
Some say “ Good business practice is to maximize the money for shareholders…. The system requires it.” No it doesn’t. Our clients make the pie bigger for everyone, including shareholders. It is not constructive top call for the overthrow of the system. We prefer to work one org at a time, that’s our Better 2025 philosophy. The system is what it is, and will only change through rising from the ashes of catastrophe. My observation of e.g. Vietnam suggests that even then capitalism is the naturally emergent end point of any society.
I believe teal culture is entirely possible and sustainable within the existing system. The case studies of Corporate Rebels reassure me.
Supposedly, capitalism incentivises businesses to suppress wages to cut costs, which means higher profit. The fallacy is that higher wages mean lower profit. It’s not a fixed pie. We improved profit by 800% in one client. Shareholders and employees got more. We lead some of our clients to open the books. In the best places, everybody knows what the company is making and what everyone is paid. They decide salaries collectively. They know the owners get most of the profit but employees get 20% of it in bonuses.
Paying more is demonstrably a better way to maximise profit than cutting costs. Brutalist scientific management has been shown to be suboptimal. Its not an inherent function of capitaism, it’s a social choice of the 20th Century. I have more faith in growing enlightenment because it makes more money.
