Here is the point of our “island of light metaphor” for Better 2025.
Vietnam is not the most “rainbow” culture on the planet, and yet we have established a dozen organisations that are well on their way to Teal. We list dozens more around the world. These islands exist and they are our hope of keeping the light alive until the world sees the error of its ways. The lights shone bright in the 1950s and 60s: human rights, Marshall Plan, United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement, the EEC, WHO, Peace Corps, Age of Aquarius, the end of European colonial rule, MLK, Green revolution, vaccines, feminism, hippies, the music revolution … Everything is on the back foot right now, led by the USA but rising globally. Humanity makes two steps forward and one back. Right now we are on the latter step. The Second Enlightenment, the new ways of thinking, will surge again.
Until then, what we can do is create and preserve individual islands of light…
