For all you consultants out there: Networks networks networks.
Back in the day:
60% of my work came from consulting groups that I was an associate with, who knew my skills and called me in.
30% came from my direct contacts in business, including through professional orgs back in the days when we had monthly meetups, and ex-clients who moved to a new job.
10% came from my social media profile (mostly my prominent blog back when they mattered. LinkedIn might be as good, I dunno).
0% from my website or books.
I never advertised or cold-called. Waste of time and money.
Now we have a new business model that isn’t relevant here, driven by our unique circumstances: a blue ocean in Vietnam along with direct access to apex executives.
