Survival of the fittest

Darwin said “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change”, right?

Actually Darwin didn’t say that nor mean it.

The individual survives due to fitness, and dies due to lack of it.
Nature only cares about fitness to survive long enough to reproduce, and in some cases support offspring.

It is THE SPECIES that adapts, through death of the unfit before reproduction, and through random mutation, mostly through DNA damage.

Individuals don’t adapt, except in a tiny number of species such as humans. Most just die a miserable death when conditions change (actually most things die a miserable death but you know what I mean), and a tiny percentage of offspring are mutants that are fit to rebreed the species.

Maybe, just maybe, we can talk about the evolution of ideas or processes within an organisation that leads to the organisation “evolving”… but best not.
