Remote vs office is not a binary choice. It is a spectrum.
There are special cases where fully remote can be justified. At a cost.
In general, we are human animals not cerebral machines. We require time together. As animals we bond better when we “share air”. Or better still share food. On trips to Europe or America, I meet people for the first time who I have “known” for years. The experience is always transformational to the relationship.
We do a lot of work online using Zoom, but we still travel several times a year to conduct work onsite. The energy dynamic in a room cannot be reproduced online.
Everybody who experiences this contrast will confirm, I’m sure.
How often a team or group needs to come together is of course contextual. Some should do it weekly. Some annually. But to suggest it should never happen is to deny humanity.
