It’s not optional

In the past you could run a successful organisation by plodding along with conventional Command and control management. Extracts productivity by force from the unwilling, making wild bets on the future, but it worked. Not any more.

For 70 years the world has been unusually tranquil and predictable. Not any more, with global shifts in power, exponential growth in technology, the resurgence of fascism, and of course climate change.

The world is increasingly VUCA. Old linear models of planning and optimising no longer work. And people won’t put up with being pushed to work. (For two reasons: one, because change becomes a constant. And two, because more of them are knowledge workers not transactional.)

After many decades of being optional, Human Systems Adaptability is increasingly essential to survive and thrive.
