It’s time to resurrect an old character from my IT Skeptic blog, the troubadour Rambling Kid Realitsm [bonus points for those who can spot the classic comedy reference], who has changed his name to Rambling Sid Open-o, to bring back his old hit, “Changin'”
Come gather ’round bosses
Wherever your throne
And admit that the cultures
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be standing alone
If your job to you is worth savin’
You better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
Your stakeholders they are a-changin’
Come governors, leaders
Please heed the call
Don’t stay in the boardrooms
Don’t block up the work
For he that gets fired
Will be he who has stalled
The VUCA outside ragin’
Will soon shake your planning
And rattle your goals
Working ways they are a-changin’
Come managers, executives
Throughout the land
And don’t criticise
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old way is rapidly agin’
Please get out of the new one
If you can’t share command
Generations they are a-changin’
(and they’re not gonna take your shit any mo-o-o-ore)
The line can’t be drawn
Predictability past
The agile one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Is all we can ask
The order is rapidly fadin’
The efficient one now
Will later be last
Business goals they are a-changin’
Agility beats efficiency, agility beats efficiency, agility beats efficiency… [fade]
