The Open Work newsletter

We are revamping our newsletter. We already send one every month or three. We will try to be more regular, monthly at first, maybe more often in future. It will still have news of what we are doing, and it will now also include interesting things we have seen on the topic of Open Work, our collective term for all the better ways of working and managing work which are emerging around the world. So if you aren’t already on our mailing list, sign up now.

Integrity

The world is advancing to higher ethical levels (despite regular evidence to the contrary). Young generations and rising middle classes are not going to stand for past behaviours from organisations. Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues are becoming threats to companies. Integrity is becoming an essential element of organisational resilience. Building organisational integrity is a strategic response by governance to ethical challenges and risks. Integrity, governance, ethics, and risk are intertwined.

Blog posts for June 2022

How do I top May 2022?  I wont even try.

June was still a great month.  We travelled around Vietnam, working in HaNoi, Sa Dec, SaiGon, Hoi An, and Da Nang. We are seeing that Cherry is gaining some celebrity in Vietnam

Not long ago, Teal Unicorn consisted of Cherry and I, with occasional help from expert friends. We are enjoying closer and more regular support from three of those friends who work with (not for) us now, as Associate Consultants: Huynh Thi Hang, Tran Duong, and Thi Thanh Hoa Dao.  You can call them Hang, Duong, and Hoa.  Welcome to Team Teal!

It is so wonderful whenever we get together with our tribe of clients, followers, and friends. Back in Vietnam, we have been catching up with them after two years away, in Teal Tribe get-togethers

We ran our new game, the Doily Studio, twice: one test run and one with 27 people. We love it.

We still managed to blog quite a lot, including in Vietnamese too.  Here are the English blog posts for June:

An agile enterprise success

Amber are an online training company who are one of our new favourite clients.  Here is a case study. This must be one of the fastest organisational improvements in Vietnam. Mostly over a period of just three months, Amber Academy have advanced in a series of incremental steps.

Toxic people

How to deal with a “toxic person” on a team? Think hard. People aren’t leased machinery. This is someone.

People aren’t ballast

Companies that lay off staff in order to maintain profits need to look long and hard at their values. So should those who remain working there – you’re next.

The future has never happened before.

I continue to struggle to convince people that probability doesnt tell us much. It’s not based in data, just guesswork. The future has never happened before. Nothing can tell us what is going to happen next.

McKinsey may be criminally awful but don’t write the content off

I’m the first to pile it on McKinsey. I’ve been rude as hell. I use them as a negative case study in my consultant training.
At the same time, the content they produce is good.
